Our conversation began on Instagram, where, as a photographer in Nassau Bahamas, I took a moment to research the person reaching out to me. With so many fake profiles and deceptive personas online, exercising caution is essential.

To my surprise, I discovered that LeDione was not just anyone; he was a highly skilled photographer, particularly renowned for his exceptional wedding photography. It felt like a compliment that, out of all the local photographers he had evaluated, he appreciated my unique approach.

When working with fellow professionals, especially as a photographer in Nassau, Bahamas, several challenges can arise:

• Intimidation: Engaging with a peer who understands the technicalities of the field can feel daunting.
• Competition: A professional in the same industry might review my work, which could influence my reputation.
• Privacy Concerns: There’s always the possibility that someone might want to uncover my workflow or creative process, potentially compromising my unique style.

However, I didn’t let any of these concerns weigh on my mind. I believe in self-awareness and authenticity. I know who I am and what I bring to the table. While I value others’ opinions, my self-worth isn’t defined by them. Additionally, I have a natural inclination to share knowledge, as it serves a purpose far beyond my lifetime.

During our conversation, LeDione mentioned that many photographers he had contacted never followed up. The shoot almost didn’t happen due to scheduling conflicts, but I made the effort to accommodate it. We met at Caves Village, running slightly behind schedule. After a quick introduction and a few test shots, we got started. Our goal was to capture the beauty of the setting sun, and this session also doubled as a birthday shoot for LeDione.

His family—wife Claudette, son Lamar, and daughter Laila—joined the session, which required a few outfit changes. As a Bahamas family photographer, my approach to photography is a bit unconventional. I aim to make my subjects appear larger than life by shooting from low angles and using wide apertures to add depth. My process is fluid and inspired by the moment, often revisiting poses and ideas for the best results.

After completing the family portraits, I wanted to create a high-energy group shot that showcased each person’s personality. I suggested they jump off a small platform for a fun, dynamic shot. LeDione and his family embraced the idea, cheering each other on through multiple attempts. After about six tries and several variations, we captured the perfect image bursting with emotion and energy.

This family truly rocked the session! The experience was a testament to the magic of collaboration, creativity, and spontaneity in photography. Working as a photographer in Nassau, Bahamas, I’m reminded that the best results come from embracing the unique stories and connections of every client.
